Werder Bremen 0-1 Wolfsburg – Werder Bremen’s 39 year stay in the Bundesliga is looking increasingly in jeopardy as Wolfsburg make it three away wins in a row to move up to 6thin the Bundesliga.
First half:
Despite hosts Werder Bremen starting the better of the two sides it was Wolfsburg who had the first big opportunity in the 13th minute which came through Wout Weghorst after taking the ball past Veljkovic the strikers weak shot was then saved by Pavlenka in the Bremen goal which allowed the covering Veljkovic to make an easy goal line clearance.
Overall this was a forgettable first half with neither side taking advantage and grasping any opportunities, the game deserved to be 0-0 going in to the break.
Second half:
The second half was a largely tense affair with most of the game lacking in chances and quality in truth, this was far from a classic but was certainly played in a very competitive manner.
Wolfsburg biggest threat of the second half seemed to be right back Kevin Mbabu who was menacing forward at every opportunity causing Bremen trouble.
In a match that looked destined to finish 0-0 the deadlock was finally broken, however it was broken by the visitors Werder Bremen when Wout Weghorst scored his first goal in six Bundesliga matches to put Werder Bremen on the brink of three away wins in a row.
Overall it must be said that Wolfsburg did more than enough to win this match despite their performance being nothing special, as for Werder Bremen it is looking increasingly likely now that Werder Bremen will be relegated as they now sit six points adrift of safety with only four games remaining, they lost a must win game here.
